Recovering speech and cognitive function after a stroke can be tough, but Ayurveda offers a gentle, holistic path to healing. Dr. Kiran from Vaidya Healthcare, Kerala, explains how Ayurveda focuses on restoring balance in the body to support recovery.

In Ayurveda, stroke-related speech and cognitive issues are often linked to an imbalance in the Vata dosha, which governs movement and communication in the body. Ayurvedic treatments aim to bring this balance back, promoting healing and better brain function.

One of the key therapies used is Panchakarma, a detox and rejuvenation process. This helps cleanse the body of toxins and stimulates the nervous system. Specific treatments like Shirodhara (pouring warm medicated oil over the forehead) help calm the mind, while Nasya (herbal oils applied through the nose) can improve speech and cognitive clarity.

Herbal remedies like Brahmi and Ashwagandha are often used to protect the brain and support mental recovery. These herbs are known to boost memory, focus, and overall brain health, helping stroke patients regain their abilities.

Dr. Kiran emphasizes that combining these Ayurvedic treatments with meditation and lifestyle adjustments can speed up recovery. “Ayurveda doesn’t just heal the body—it supports the mind and soul, ensuring a complete recovery,” he says. By addressing both physical and emotional well-being, Ayurveda offers stroke patients a comprehensive path to regaining speech, cognition, and overall balance in life.
